Day-wise Itinerary
Day1
Day 1: Chandigarh to Manali – Arrival & Local Exploration

Manali

  • Morning: Depart from Chandigarh
    • Start your journey from Chandigarh around 6:00 AM. The distance is approximately 310 km and takes around 7-8 hours by road. You’ll pass through scenic landscapes including towns like Bilaspur, Mandi, and Kullu, and enjoy views of the Beas River and surrounding mountains.
    • If traveling by a Volvo bus, it will take around 10-12 hours with comfortable seating and refreshment breaks. Make sure to carry some snacks and water for the road trip.
  • Afternoon: Arrival in Manali
    • Arrive in Manali around 2:00-3:00 PM and check into your hotel (options like The Himalayan, Johnson’s Café & Hotel, or Snow Valley Resorts are popular choices).
    • Relax after the long drive and freshen up. For lunch, either enjoy a meal at the hotel or visit local cafés such as Café 1947 or Chopsticks Restaurant for authentic Himachali cuisine like Siddu (steamed bread) and Chana Madra (spicy chickpea curry).
  • Evening: Mall Road & Old Manali
    • Head to Mall Road for shopping and sightseeing. Explore the local markets, where you’ll find woolens, handicrafts, Kullu shawls, and souvenirs.
    • Next, visit the peaceful Old Manali area known for its charming lanes and riverside cafés. Relax in one of the cafés, like Café 1947 or The Lazy Dog, while enjoying views of the Beas River.
  • Dinner
    • Dine at one of the local restaurants offering a mix of Indian and Himachali food. Some popular spots include Café Meraki and Chopsticks Restaurant, which provide a cozy dining atmosphere.

Day2
Day 2: Manali Sightseeing – Solang Valley, Rohtang Pass & Adventure Activities

Manali

  • Morning: Solang Valley
    • Start your day early and head to Solang Valley, located around 14 km from Manali. Known for its stunning views and adventure activities, Solang is a must-visit for adventure lovers.
    • If visiting in winter (December to February), you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding on the snow-covered slopes. In summer, try paragliding, zorbing, and horse riding for a thrilling experience.
    • The valley is also great for nature walks and photography, with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers.
  • Lunch
    • Have lunch at a café in Solang Valley. There are several options offering simple and local Himachali food like dal chawal, momo, and siddu (steamed wheat flour dumplings).
  • Afternoon: Rohtang Pass (if open)
    • If visiting between May and November, make sure to visit Rohtang Pass (51 km from Manali). It is at an altitude of 3,978 meters and offers snow-covered peaks and panoramic views of the Himalayan range.
    • Activities here include skiing, snowboarding, sledging, and ATV rides. Rohtang is a popular spot for snow lovers and adventure seekers.
    • Important: You will need a permit to visit Rohtang Pass, which can be obtained online or through your hotel. The pass remains closed from November to April due to heavy snowfall.
  • Evening: Return to Manali & Explore Temples
    • After visiting Rohtang Pass, return to Manali. On the way, stop by the Hidimba Devi Temple, a wooden temple located in the forest. It is famous for its architecture and peaceful surroundings.
    • Optionally, visit the Manu Temple, dedicated to the sage Manu, and located near Old Manali.
    • You can also take a rejuvenating dip in the hot springs of Vashisht Baths, known for their therapeutic properties.
  • Dinner
    • For dinner, try Café Meraki or Johnson’s Café, offering delicious local and international dishes. Don’t miss out on trying Himachali specialties like Dham (traditional rice and lentil dish) or Mitha (sweet rice dessert).

Day3
Day 3: Naggar Castle, Kullu, and Return to Chandigarh

    • Begin the day with a visit to Naggar Castle, located around 20 km from Manali. The castle offers panoramic views of the Kullu Valley, Beas River, and the surrounding snow-capped peaks.
    • Take a tour of the castle, which once served as the residence of the royal family of Kullu. Don’t forget to visit the Naggar Art Gallery, which houses paintings and works by Russian artist Nicholas Roerich.
    • The castle also has a café that serves delicious local food, making it an excellent spot for breakfast or an early lunch.
  • Lunch

    • On your way back to Chandigarh, stop at Kullu (approximately 40 km from Manali). Kullu is famous for its apple orchards and Kullu Shawl, as well as its vibrant markets.
    • Visit the Raghunath Temple, a famous Hindu temple in Kullu, and explore the local markets for last-minute souvenirs like shawls, dry fruits, and handmade items.
    • Start your drive back to Chandigarh in the afternoon. The drive takes around 8-9 hours, so ensure you leave by 2:00 PM to reach Chandigarh by evening.
  • Evening: Arrive in Chandigarh
    • You will arrive in Chandigarh by around 8:00-9:00 PM. Depending on your travel method, be prepared for a relaxing evening after a long journey.
